A Morning of Pinterest

21 May

Pinterest is way too addictive to let myself look at everyday. Since I’ve decided to post some boards periodically for the blog I let myself have one morning where I lustfully scan all of the eye candy that I can consume. The rest of the time I certainly add lots of things that I come across in my internet wanderings.

I created a board of this mornings clickings through the Pinterest jungle.

Photo?

20 Apr

Photography is something I used to dabble in when much younger. These days I really only take pictures for more functional reasons. This morning my daughter and I were walking about the yard as we do in the morning and I found myself a little obsessed with all the rotting flowers falling off a particular bush. I found myself arranging them along with moss and lichen. In the end I took this photo.

Today on Pinterest

5 Apr

Lately, I have been spending way more time on Pinterest than Etsy. As a result, I have decided to share a board periodically from that days rummaging through Pinterest. Here is the first board in that series:

Happy Halloween!

31 Oct

I just thought I would share a little of my halloween creativity with you all. Above is the cake I made for my daughter’s Halloween party at school. I was short on time and ingredients so I used a gluten-free vanilla cake mix which I added pumpkin & spice to. I baked it in 1 9″ cake pan, a bundt pan and one cupcake. I frosted it with a orange spiced cream cheese frosting and decorated it with home-made modeling chocolate. For the chocolate I melted a 12 ounce bag of chocolate chips and mixed in 1/2 cup of raw honey. Once it cooled it was much like working with beeswax.

And that is my lovely daughter in her cowgirl costume. I made her chaps and vest using craft felt and embroidery. Pretty different than her Princess Elizabeth I costume from last year, right?

Flickr Faves

11 Sep

It’s been awhile since I shared some of my favorites on flickr. I love flickr and the odd assortment of images I become exposed to there. As usual I have lots of miniature fake food, drawings, eery photos and real food too. Click on either assortment to get a chance to find out more about each of the images.

Some of my favorite blogs right now

29 Aug

Not only do I enjoy writing a blog but I love to read blogs. Hardly a day goes by that I do not add 2 or 3 new blogs to my google reader to follow. I’m particularly fond of food blogs, even if they feature foods I could never eat…actually those are some of my favorite.

The one thing that I look for in a favorite blog is inspiration. I like to look at a blog and have it inspire a desire to do something better, try something new or to just spark a new creative project.

KeiKo Lynn

The first on my list is a exactly what I’m talking about when it comes to inspiration. Keiko Lynn is a fashion and style blog with helpful how-to’s for things like make-up. This may amuse you if you know me because I have not worn make-up for a good 15 years now and while I design clothing I don’t really keep up with fashion. Her blog is filled with great imagery and focus however and this I find very inspiring.

Poires au Chocolat

The blog, Poires au Chocalat is another perfect example of inspiration. There is probably not a single recipe I can eat on this blog. I have celiac and this blog is as glutinous as the come. That being said, looking at it makes me want to bake and push the boundaries of gluten-free baking and raw treat creation to this level.

Yum Universe

This blog actually has food I can eat! I have not been reading Yum Universe long enough to actually try a recipe but they do look fabulous. I have been recommending this blog to lots of health coaching clients for food inspiration and recipes.

What I’m listening to these days

24 Jul

I really like listening to music and the news. Everyday I get to the office I open up NPR.org and listen to Morning Edition. The great part about being on the west coast time zone for part of the year is by the time I’m ready to listen to the news NPR has posted today’s show to their website.

After I’ve listened to the radio, to calm myself down, I put on some music. I have a playlist in my iTunes which I dump all of my new music into and remove items as I get tired of them. This is what I tend to listen to the most during the day. Here are some of my favorite songs in that playlist currently:

Sharing Orb by Dirty Projectors/Bjork

Man O’War by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone

Kettering by The Antlers

Goldskull by Miniature Tigers

Riot Rhythm by Sleigh Bells

There has been so much beautiful art on flickr recently. I like to share my favorites with you periodically. There are a few people whose posts I am always looking forward to and wanted to point you to their sites specifically as well. noelbadges has some fabulous nature illustration, nanihta has some gorgeous and surreal photography and I’m endlessly fascinated by the food miniatures of Petit Plat.
