This drawing is from a dream. It was actually something I drew in a dream. Typically if I dream a composition I cannot remember it come morning but this time was different.

This is the first diptych I have done in a really long time. What’s more, this painting was begun years ago. It was an intense nightmare I had in Brooklyn when my daughter was only 2 or 3 years old. I have been carrying the half-finished paintings around the country. My art show at Dubsea in Seattle this June has inspired me to complete a lot of new/old work.
In other art related news, it looks like I’ll be having an August show at another cafe. This is Katy’s Corner Cafe, also in Seattle. They have a boldy painted red wall ready for a cluster of my drawings. I’m working up something special for this unique spot.
I’m kind of hooked on Society6. Overall I feel there is a very high quality of visual art being shared there. Sure, a lot of it is hipstery. I also take issue with the way many of the artists portray women (I have an upcoming post planned on this topic). Overall though I feel delighted to share my work in a forum with so many talented artist.
I’m going to share a few of my favorite pieces. You can find a a full list of my favorites here. Click on the images to be brought to the items on Society6.
In preparation for my show starting June 15, 2012 at Dubsea in Seattle I have been working diligently on an entirely new set of drawings and paintings. I thought I’d share some of the in-progress work.
First are a few of my very basic sketches which I do to help me remember ideas. These will be fleshed out on 11×14 or 18×24 pieces of paper soon.

I’ve also decided to do a series of small gouache paintings after finishing the painting Arizona. Here are the boards with their basic sketches on them.

And finally, an 18″x24″ drawing that is about halfway done.

This little painting was one of the last ideas I started while living in Patagonia, AZ. I was walking home after dropping my daughter off at school and I saw an eagle and a raven sitting quite close to one another on a branch of a tree. Somehow that experience became this piece.
I will be displaying this painting along with some drawings for the month of April at a group show at The Upstairs in Seattle.
You can also purchase this piece as a print (or iPhone case!) through Society6″.
As of late most of my drawing time has been taken up with Christmas commissions. Now that I’m caught up with those I’ve turned my attention to some pieces that have been in-progress for quite some time.
This piece started with the outlines of the 3 female figures. I had the idea that I would like to do a drawing with very unadorned lined work. Once I finished the figures I decided that the contrast of a highly patterned and colored background would be nice.
This piece is available as notecards and prints through Redbubble.com. And if I do say myself I think a framed print of this would make a lovely last minute Christmas gift!
I’m kind of addicted to the computer right now. For a good cause though. I’d really like to move and to move I need to find some new income. Hence Etsy and my endless posting about it. I am working on some new pieces though. I’m also playing around with some new sites as well in an effort to drive traffic to Etsy.
I have to admit to having a bit of a closet social media site obsession. I still remember good ole clunky friendster, never loading properly but giving me my first taste of socializing without all the messy face-to-face. Hell, some of my best friends have been made on-line. It seemed time, with the encouragement of Etsy of course, to explore some new sites.
I know, more Etsy. But really, I need to move out the old work, my walls are cluttered! I also would like to move and moving is moving. You know? So articulate. On Etsy though I’m giving away all my so un-mysterious inspirations so you can see how mundane life can breed lovely complexity.

My newest painting. Want to know more? You’ll need to check it out on Etsy.
